Description

This webinar will discuss the application of High Friction Surface Treatments (HFST) on roadways in South Dakota. HFST has been successfully used to reduce roadway departure crashes in various locations throughout South Dakota. These locations have had high rates of crashes due to wet or wintery conditions. The presentation will briefly discuss the history of HFST and how SDDOT got started. Success stories, including not-so-successful stories, will be shared in this presentation. SDDOT has received regional awards in innovation and safety for their efforts in the application of HFST on their roadways.

Andy Vandel, SDDOT Traffic Safety Engineer, has been a champion for safety and reducing roadway departures at SDDOT. Andy has won awards and received recognition for his efforts and success in reducing roadway departure crashes through the application of HFST.
