Be Safe At Home

  • Nov 22, 2016 (9:30 - 11:30 am CT; 8:30 - 10:30 am MT)
Video Conference (designated rooms at DOT sites)

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Tuesday, November 8, 2016

The risk posed to employers from injuries sustained off-the-job (OTJ) present a business and human cost that far exceeds those incurred while at work. Changing core safety behavior can only be accomplished by a holistic approach that includes an OTJ component. An employer program that properly engages the worker and workers’ families yields the greatest return on investment (ROI). Participants will take away the following from attending this session: OTJ injury and fatality statistics, costs, summary of the 2014 National Safety Council OTJ employer survey, identification of common barriers for the implementation of an OTJ program, and ideas for developing and rolling-out an OTJ program.

Dan Hannan, Health and Safety Director for Merjent, an environmental consulting firm based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will lead this course. Hannan is an H&S professional with 25 years of experience in the construction, manufacturing, and oil and gas industries and is an authorized OSHA Outreach Instructor. He currently serves as Chairman of the National Safety Council Community Safety Division.
