Structures play a critical role in our transportation networks; silently facilitating the movement of goods, services, and people, as well as the connectivity across cities, states, and nations. Highlighting the critical importance of bridge preservation, in this webinar series, we discuss the challenges posed by aging infrastructure and the ramifications of neglect. Attendees will gain insights into innovative preservation techniques, proactive maintenance strategies, and the latest advancements in structure maintenance and preservation.

Part 1 of this series will discuss the process of deck preparation techniques for overlays. This presentation will also discuss a more in-depth look at the concept, philosophy, and inspection of Hydrodemolition technology for deck repair and restoration projects.


Patrick Martens is a registered professional engineer in the state of Missouri. He graduated from The University of Missouri - Rolla (now Missouri Science and Technology). He worked for over 30 years with the Missouri Department of Transportation, in areas of bridge construction, bridge inspection and bridge maintenance. For the last 10 years he has been working as an independent consultant, for Bridge Preservation and Inspection Services, in Jefferson City, Missouri. His primary focus is education and training for DOTs, consultants and contractors, with regard to various bridge deck preservation treatments, emphasizing the implementation of hydrodemolition technology and the installation of Latex Modified Concrete overlays for bridge decks. He has been married to his wife Amy for 38 years and has three children and five grandchildren.
