Description
This presentation provides an overview of key factors to consider when using snow fences to control blowing and drifting snow. Participants will learn how to evaluate when a snow fence is the right solution, explore design principles that maximize effectiveness, and review best practices to ensure proper installation and long-term performance.

Speaker(s)
Kathy Ahlenius, a Wyoming Professional Geologist, received her BS in Geology from Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS. She began her career at the Wyoming Department of Transportation as an engineering field geologist, but for the last 20 years, she has used the training she received from Dr. Ronald Tabler in controlling blowing and drifting snow to design snow fence, promote wind and blowing snow research at WYDOT, and give presentations to a variety of groups. She is the past chair of the TRB Road Weather Committee, current member of the new TRB Standing Committee on Winter Maintenance and Response to Weather Events, and the current Research Coordinator for the AASHTO Committee on Maintenance.

This training is designed for professionals who are or could be involved in snow fences. This could include maintenance, construction, local governments, and right-of-way personnel.
